Meet Kat Powers

Kat Powers is the owner and founder of Meter and Milestones LLC. She graduated from DePaul University with a BA in Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse in 2018 where she also worked as a peer-writing tutor at The University Center for Writing-based Learning. She worked in a variety of fields before beginning her career in education by teaching at a Montessori school. She created Meter and Milestones in order to bring all of her skills, passions and talents into one cohesive business.

In addition to working with young people, Kat is a spoken word performer and typewriter poet. Kat was the 2018 Louder Than a Bomb College Slam Champion and a 2023 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Awards Semifinalist. She worked as a typewriter poet at the WNDR Museum for two years and her writing has been featured in Motley Magazine, 14East and Beyond Words. Currently, she produces and co-hosts Open Book Open Mic, a (nearly) weekly poetry show at The Bughouse Theater with Cory Sutter. Her full resume can be downloaded here

"Kat's expertise and dedication played a pivotal role in my academic achievements, including a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from DePaul University. Her guidance in refining my writing skills and her unwavering support throughout my academic journey have been invaluable. Kat's ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and patience truly sets her apart. I wholeheartedly recommend Kat Powers to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and supportive tutor.
